'Nabi' and 'Rasul' in Islam

'Rasulan Nabiyan'  (Messenger & Prophet)

The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. They believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers. (They proclaim) “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You (alone) is the final return.” (Al-Baqara 2: 286)

Alhamdulillah, Summa Alhamdulillah, today I have chosen to talk about the messengers of Allah. First of all, when we talk about the Messengers of Allah, it is very important that we are aware that the Islamic conception regarding the role and function of the prophets is different from the conception of the Jews and Christians. In Islam, the word “Nabi” (prophet) or even “Rasul” (Messenger) is not reserved for only the Elects of Allah who have received divine revelations as divine laws to share with their peoples. When we talk about prophets before the coming of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), we are talking about prophets whose message was limited to their own people, while Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and all those who come and will come as his followers-prophets, will be prophets who cannot bring any new law, where they must base themselves only on the Holy Quran and the information of the Ghayb (Invisible) that Allah shows them.

And so, this brings us to the question, can a prophet come after Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh)?

Kerala Jalsa 2023: Announcement

In a recent communication with members, Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam- Kerala officially announced the reception of approval for the forthcoming 14th Jalsa Salana programme at the historic Noor’ul Islam Masjid, Mathra on December 26, 27, 28 & 29. In a recent letter to the Amir-Jamaat, Mukarram R. Jamaluddin Raother Saheb, Imam-Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius also agreed to address the gathering via YouTube on the last day of the Jalsa programme, i.e., Friday, the 29th December 2023, Insha Allah.

The formation of the Kerala Jamaat, as well as the annual Jalsa programme at the Noor’ul Islam Masjid-Mathra has vital importance in the spiritual lives of the believers in India. For in the annals of the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International, the Kerala Jamaat is one of the early Jamaats to evolve among the believers outside of Mauritius. With the official establishment of the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam in the year 2008 after a few years of shaping up in the island-nation, the light of Tawheed emanating from the Divine Manifestation in Mauritius spread in the Indian state of Kerala; a number of brothers courageously declared their intention to recognize the spiritual claims of Hazrat Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) and took the Bai’at at Alappuzha, Alhamdulillah.

‘Sabequn’: Excel in Virtues

True faith in Islam is a journey in progressive action.  ‘Imaan’ entails a believing person’s verbal commitment to abide by Divine commands to match with his or her actions in life. Otherwise, mere expression of faith amounts to nothing in the spiritual realm. For a Muslim, expression of faith with sincerity of purpose leads to corresponding actions driven by the obligations of faith. Put differently, verbal expression of belief in the values of Islam is socially completed only when good deeds emanate from the believer. That is why the Holy Qur’an repeatedly urges true believers to race with one another in doing good deeds and to progress in piety by practicing all virtues of life.

Believers have the duty to constantly strive: to bring about reform and refinement in personal, family and social conduct; refrain from evils and sinful inclinations; respect the rights of God and the rights of His servants, etc. Reproduced below is a holy discourse given in March 1908 at Qadian by the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian [1835-1908] urging his disciples and followers in the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya to bring about a pious change in their personal, family and social life by being truly mindful of God and His commandments:

The Prophecy about ‘Mathil-e-Massih’

Many Ahmadis today are ignorant about the true conception of their beliefs. As a consequence, they have lost sight of the Sahih Al Islam that true Ahmadiyyat stands for. Instead of worshipping Allah (swt) and obeying His commands as explained by the Holy Prophet (sa) and the Promised Messiah (as), these Ahmadis are now enamoured of their priests and chiefs among them, and they follow their Caliph in his profound doctrinal mistakes, God Forbid. Today, Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya rejects every possibility of Divine guidance except the one that may come through their assembly-elected Caliph, making him infallible arbiter in the spiritual destiny of millions. The Nizam-e-Jamaat evades and ignores the Word of God when it stands against their  material interests, family prestige, and institutional designs, especially on the divine prerogative of appointing a Prophet or Mujaddid in a new era.

The Promised Messiah (as) never indicated the current structure of the Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya as the only institutional design compatible with Divine Will. Even in his final Book, the testamentary declaration AL WASIYYAT, while asking his disciples to remain united by taking the oath of allegiance with one among them, the Promised Messiah (as) indicated that a time would come when it would become necessary for Allah (swt) to raise someone with Rooh-ul-Qudus (Holy Spirit) to guide and steer the community on the correct path.

Today, Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya rejects such a possibility altogether by mystifying the office of Khalifatul Massih with all temporal and spiritual power so much so that myopic and ignorant Ahmadis wonder, ‘can someone possibly claim to be above the Khalifatul Massih!’ Despite the myth-making by the Ahmadis on the office of the ‘Khalifatul Massih’, the reality remains that the Promised Messiah (as) has left behind a rich legacy of writings that point to the advent of the likes of the Messiah even in future. All theological engineering designed to mask the idolatry in the vanguard of the Nizam-e-Jamaat is bound to crumple before the Day of Judgement, Insha Allah, Aameen.

The Deceit of the Fifth Caliph

Can a Prophet or a Mujaddid still appear? Where does the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya (Qadian) stand today on the question of the appearance of a servant of God in this era? Can someone appear with Divine revelations in the presence of the Electoral Assembly-elected Khalifatul Massih system in the Nizam-e-Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya? These questions are of vital importance for spiritual seekers who worship only Allah (swt) and are eager to follow revealed guidance concerning His commandments. We are living in 1445 AH; the Fifteenth Century of the blessed Hijrah era; 45 years have gone by in the present Century of Islamic Calendar. Can a Mujaddid appear in the times of the elected Caliph in the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya in this new era, a century after the death and departure of the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian [1835-1908]?

Many thoughtful Ahmadis today seek answers for the aforesaid questions in their own midst, despite being deeply aware of the limits of the current system of leadership in the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya to honestly and frankly address the same. On his part, instead of guiding people on the reality of Divine guidance,  the present Caliph, Khalifatul Massih V Mirza Masroor Ahmad Saheb, has been evading and avoiding this question for long through adopting evasive strategies; often ridiculing the intelligence of the questioners and attributing motives to truth seekers who raise this issue of Divine guidance. Against the lessons of history, and the manifest wisdom of Prophetic teachings on the advent of a Mujaddid in a new century of Islam, the Fifth Caliph has been challenging common sense- claiming that Nizam-e-Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya is enough for spiritual guidance for the whole world of Islam even in the new century, and there is no need for a Divinely-inspired Mujaddid for the same!

Poem: ‘A Hymn to God’

Lo! How manifest is the Light of God,

Who is the Ultimate source of all Light

The whole universe is turning into a reflective mirror

For the eyes to perceive Him.

Last night while watching the Moon

I became so agitated

In the beauty of the Moon

Were the traces of the beauty of my Beloved.

Under the influence of that consummate beauty

My heart is in a state of turmoil

Mention not to me

the comeliness of the Turk or the Tartar.

O my Beloved,

How wonderfully is Your

Creative power manifested everywhere

Whichever way I look I find

Every road leading to Your presence.

A Kashf on ‘Divine Hug’

True devotees are a sign of Living Faith. Love of God drives them to respect and act upon Divine commands and prohibitions as they should be. For instance, they offer regular prayers at specified times of the day; they recite the Holy Qur’an at dawn. Moreover, they sincerely engage in remembrance of God all the time. In the pure quest for the grand favour and blessings of Divine nearness, they even wake up at night and pray as an extra offering of their own: in the long hours of the night prostrating before God and weeping in supplication, nurturing their souls even in a state of exhaustion. Like the Holy Qur’an notes, Allah Himself indicates the standards of readiness and rewards of sincerity:

‘O you who are bearing a heavy responsibility, stand up in Prayer at night except a small portion thereof—Half of it, or make it a little less than that, or make it a little more than that—and recite the Qur’an slowly and thoughtfully.’ [73: 2-5].

‘O Ye who believe! Offer Tahajjud prayer in the latter part of the night. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a highly praised status.’ (17: 80)

True devotion to God, or Divine Love, has beneficial consequences for the believer when God gazes at the heart of the sincere soul with forgiveness, mercy, kindness and indulgence. A famous Hadith-e-Qudsi reads as follows:

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) narrates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: “Allah the Almighty says … ‘My servant can be close to Me through the things that I love and that I made obligatory upon him. By offering Nawafil, My servant gets so close to Me that I start loving him. When I make him a friend of Mine, I become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hands with which he holds and the feet with which he walks. Thus, I fulfil all that he desires. If he begs of Me, I provide for him; if he seeks My protection, I grant him protection. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitabul Riqaq, Bab-ul-Tawazu)

Indeed, the pious men and women who are steeped in Divine waters and absorb themselves in Divine remembrance and sublime invocations- the special servants and friends of God; it is they who are blessed to partake in the subtle mysteries of this universe, and special signs of Divine nearness appear in and among their circle. Indeed, at the highest levels of this mystical journey, the believer will become alone with the Alone, almost 'lose' himself in God. With such depths of Faith in a Divinely-imbued servant, the blessings of the Islamic Way will be demonstrated- it is  as if the heaven and the earth are renewed through his presence and work for the sake of Allah (swt) as the new ‘Adam’, the ‘Khalifatullah’ of the era.

Today, Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International with a Divinely-appointed ‘Khalifatullah’ [who speaks with the help of ‘Roohul Qudus’ at the head of the Jamaat] strives for the creation of a new heaven and earth; in its own humble and sincere way of pure devotion and submission to the Will and Decision of Allah (swt), it is a stunning example of the kind of Divine Manifestations that have had been witnessed through the centuries in different lands, with the advent of prophets and messengers and saints of God who strove to uphold the pristine truth about God through a correct appreciation of the eternal teachings of Faith, Alhamdulillah, Summa Alhamdulillah.

Reproduced Below is a mystical experience of special Divine Nearness reported by none other than our Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian [1835-1908] in the previous era- at a time when Allah (swt) raised him as the commissioned one of the age to demonstrate the blessings and favours of the living religion of Islam:

‘Musleh Maoud’: Celebrating a Prophecy

In a special speech telecast live over the YouTube on Friday 24 February 2023, Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius spoke on the fulfillment of a grand Divine Sign in the modern times pointing to the truthfulness and vitality of Living Islam: the prophecy on the advent of Divinely- shaded individual/s within the physical and spiritual progeny of the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian (1835-1908).

All followers of the Promised Messiah (as) found in the various sections of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya today agree that Hazrat Ahmad (as) made the announcement concerning the advent of pure children as a special sign of Divine mercy and grace and blessing. Yet, there are major differences of opinion among the Ahmadi sects about the meaning and interpretative implications of the prophecy on ‘Musleh Maoud’.

'Mainstream' Ahmadis of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya (Qadian) feel that the prophecy was fulfilled in the person of the second caliph, Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad (ra) (1889-1965) and they attach only some anecdotal value to the fulfillment of this prophecy today, as they do not find any contemporary relevance to it, in a new century of Islam.

On the other hand, some Ahmadis do not consider that the prophecy regarding the advent of a ‘Musleh Maoud’ is fulfilled yet. For them, the fulfillment of the prophecy is concerned with the advent of a Ma'mur in the new century of Islam- in the Fifteenth Century Hijri.

Calamities and Divine Commands

The devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria earlier this month has resulted in a great humanitarian catastrophe in the region, with thousands of lives being lost enmass, and millions facing acute crisis of existence with displacement-induced shortage of access to basic resources and services. Looking at the sheer scale of the human and material loss at the earthquake, the media and the experts agree that Turkiye is reeling under ‘the disaster of a century’.

And yet looking further around our small world, it appears as though destructive calamities are now a recurring phenomena, with different nations witnessing a range of extreme weather events such as floods, cyclones, droughts, land-sliding and earthquakes, etc. The outbreak of viruses and related public health emergencies are a major concern, long before Covid-19 struck the world with horrific consequences. All these are in addition to the several man-made disasters destroying societies around the world: consider the human cost and material devastation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and other violent ethnic/racist campaigns creating havoc in many lands.

Disasters striking the world make one ponder over the role and function of the Almighty God, the Creator and Sustainer of all the worlds. Amidst all that is happening in the world, a spiritual view will be helpful in making sense of our moment here. God is never unjust to humanity. Through His chosen messengers raised and appointed in every era, God provides clear guidance on fundamental values of healthy and balanced living for the benefit of people. Divine teachings prescribe radical moderation and fair-dealings; equity and justice; compassion and empathy for fellow beings. It is by following the ethical code of conduct prescribed by God- the Divine commandments- on diverse aspects of individual and collective life that one can safeguard against the temptations of Evil: the empty promises of all false deities.

Indeed, humans can truly worship God, and make real progress in social life by relying on the Divine principle of compassion and benevolence. Instead of abusing God-gifted resources and faculties of the ‘self’, we ought to use the opportunities to serve the interests of our common humanity and thereby privilege the collective benefit in a spirit of solidarity and compassion for all. Indeed, nations inherit Divine mercy and blessings when they follow the correct and straight path of pure wisdom as taught by the Prophets and the Elects.

A believer does not agree with the materialist view that God is indifferent to human destiny and social fortunes. On the other hand, to a believer, Allah (swt) is not only aware of even the whisperings of the human soul, but He also comes to the aid of the one who seeks and prays for His help and assistance in times of need. For a believer, God’s grace and blessings are available to everyone. At the same time, His punishment is also very severe, especially to those ignore Divine commands and promote disorder in society. All that is happening around us is a reflection of the Divine Signs and manifestations involving both Divine Grace and Divine Wrath.

Khalifatullah's Dream- 2

During the recently-concluded fasting period of Ramadan 1443 AH, Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim Saheb (aba) of Mauritius was vouchsafed with several mystical visions and other spiritual experiences that foretell events waiting to unfold in the world at large- inter alia, the dismal spiritual condition of the members of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, the severe punishment awaiting disbelievers and the hypocrites, and the good fortune and rewards awaiting the truly sincere. These mystical experiences make it abundantly clear that in the larger struggle for the preservation of Islamic values in the world, especially among the Muslims, the purified path being followed by the Khalifatullah (aba) and his disciples in the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam has a vital role to play, Insha Allah.

In this context, we have recently published a very important dream made by Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) in the holy and blessed days of the Ramadan concerning a great duty on true believers. The dream heralds that sincere souls in the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam  shall strive earnestly for safeguarding the sanctity of Islamic teachings- as the dream foretells, with their efforts at preservation of the Keys of Ka’aba as well as the entering of Makkah by a future high representative of Allah, by a Sahih Muslim, Insha Allah, Aameen.

Reproduced below is yet another important dream made by Hazrat Saheb (aba) on the 25th of April 2022~ 23 Ramadan 1443 AH, touching upon several important themes at the heart of the divine manifestation and its preaching efforts in the last two decades in Mauritius- providing stunning insights into the shifting attitude of the Ahmadis, and also of the people who associated themselves as disciples in the early days, and also of the sincere striving of the present followers of the Khalifatullah (aba) in India. The dream also points to the remarkable continuity on many different levels in the revelatory mission of Hazrat Saheb (aba) with the spiritual message and mission of the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian in the previous era, regardless of the hostile attitude of the present-day Ahmadis and their chiefs to the continuity of Divine revelations and the true meaning of Divine appointment of a Khalifa, or a Khalifatullah among the people.

Promised Messiah: Prophecies & Signs

On the occasion of the Massih Maoud Day, on 23 March 2022~ 20 Shabaan 1443 AH, Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius made an illuminating discourse on a very important spiritual issue. Expounding on the great Muslim spiritual expectation concerning the advent of a great Divine soul among the people in the Later Days, Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) describes how these historic prophecies stand fulfilled through the advent of the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) in the previous era, and also the heavenly signs that have magnificently testified to the veracity of the spiritual claims.  Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) further notes that the heavenly promises and signs have once again stand fulfilled in this era when Allah (swt) raised him, with Divine revelations, to reform and revive the pure teachings and practices of Sahih Al Islam. Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) further notes that the heavenly promises and signs have once again stand fulfilled in this era when Allah (swt) raised him, with Divine revelations, to reform and revive the pure teachings and practices of Sahih Al Islam. ‘Mubahila’ to Ahmadi Maulvis

Over the last many years, the Maulvis and leaders of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Qadian in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu are constantly engaged in propagating malafide accusations and running vilification campaigns against the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International. Ever since a bunch of devout Ahmadi brothers and other truth seekers in the State recognized and accepted the spiritual claims and divine mission of Hazrat Muhyi-ud-Din Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius in this era, and thereby embraced and established the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam in Tamil Nadu- with numerous branches of the Jamaat getting established in all parts of the State, the Maulvis and chiefs of the Nizam-e-Jamaat have been on panic mood. By maligning the fair reputation of the Holy Imam of this Jamaat and his devoted disciples in the land, the little men of the Nizam seeks to extinguish the Light of Allah in their midst.

Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an: 'O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My revelations, then whoever fears Allah and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (Al-A’rraf7:36). When someone takes the name of Allah (swt) to say that he comes from Allah (swt), and he brings evidence of Divine revelations and other sublime messages and signs of Divine favour in support of these lofty claims, it is the duty of all believers to ponder over the situation in humble submission to the Divine Will and embrace the extraordinary Divine blessing on the community.

Revelation: Ahmadi Speculations

Recently, an Ahmadi brother sent us a question. According to him: 'It was Allah who had already revealed to Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah(as), ‘Inni ma'aka ya Masroor' (Surely, I am with you, O Masroor) Hence it is very clear when Allah Himself said that 'I am with you, O Masroor’- that is, He is with the fifth Khalifa Mirza Masroor Ahmad after the Promised Messiah. Then, how can Munir Ahmad Azim Sahib, or anyone else, have the authority to do so?

Before, we can answer the question first of all, we have to discuss about the divine revelation revealed to the Promised Messiah(as). Actually, this revelation is the third from the chain of revelations which is vouchsafed to the Promised Messiah (as) in Arabic language and these revelations were received by him on December 1907. (Tadhkirah, p. 1016) In that, Allah (swt) had revealed to him, "Inni ma'aka ya Masrur" (I am with you, O Masrur [happy one]) and Further, it was revealed to him “Inni Ma'aka ya Ibrahim” in the same day! One thing we should also remember is that these revelations were vouchsafed to the Promised Messiah (as).

But now, the Nizamies are completely devoid of this heavenly blessings and they are claiming that this revelation is a prophecy for Mirza Masroor Ahmad Sahib and certainly, we will have no objection; rather, we will happily welcome it. But the question is did he (Mirza Masroor Ahmad Sahib) proclaim and declared that the revelation of Promised Messiah (as) would prove that he has been raised from Allah for the benefit of the whole of mankind? And if not, what is the significance of this own claim by Nizamies?

The Rejection of Prophets

According to the Holy Qur’an, across time and history, most people choose to remain deaf to the voice of truth, and they condemn themselves to spiritual death by rejecting Divine messages. “Never has an apostle come to them without their deriding him” (36:31) “Even before you [Prophet], We sent messengers among the various communities of old, but they mocked every single messenger that came to them: in this way We make the message slip through the hearts of evildoers. They will not believe in it. That was what happened with the peoples of long ago, and even if We opened a gateway into Heaven for them and they rose through it, higher and higher, they would still say, ‘Our eyes are hallucinating. We are bewitched.” (15: 11-16)

People who reject revelation and prophethood, in their incredulity, confuse revealed truths with illusory “enchantment” or “sorcery” and when Elects of God appear with revelations, they are invariably ridiculed. Such men reject Prophets based on their false notions/beliefs and flawed reasoning on God’s ways (Sunnat Allah), especially on the continuity of perpetual guidance through His servants in morally-darkened times. We have sent down the Reminder Ourself, and We Ourself will guard it (from all corruption).” (15:10) "O children of Adam, if Messengers come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing My Signs unto you, then whoso shall fear God and do good deeds, on them shall come no fear nor shall they grieve." (7: 36)

Recently, a man ignorant of the Qur’anic insights on the rejection of Prophets by people sought to parade his sectarian prejudices against the Ahmadi Muslims by raising a question: “Why the Qadiani Prophet, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad [i.e. the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as)] was not accepted by all people?” The comprehensive response given by Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam Hazrat Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim Saheb (aba) of Mauritius on the occasion deserves to be studied by every truth-seeker.

Qur’an on ‘Khalifatullah’

'Is there a Qur'anic Verse which stipulates that a Khalifatullah is a Messenger of Allah?' This question was recently raised by some Ahmadis when they were told about the spiritual messages and Divinely-elected status of Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam Hazrat Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim Saheb (aba) of Mauritius. It's indeed a measure of the extend of ignorance prevailing among the current crop of Ahmadis that they have started questioning the very foundational beliefs of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya without any knowledge and understanding of spiritual doctrine! Do they know that their spiritual father Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian was a Messenger of Allah by virtue of the fact that he was a Khalifatullah of his times? Don't they know that Allah (swt) has promised the believers through the Holy Prophet (sa) that He will raise one or more Khalifatullah in every era ? When someone is raised and sent by Allah (swt) as His Khalifa with Holy Spirit (Divine revelations), can such a Khalifatullah be addressed except as a Messenger of Allah?

Based on Qur'anic teachings and the history of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, Imam-Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam Hazrat Muhyiuddin Munir Ahmad Azim Saheb (aba) of Mauritius explains the concept of Khalifatullah- distinguishing it from mundane selections that men's assemblies do make and take for their own social leadership and community cohesion, such as the office of the Khalifatul Massih in the Nizam-e-Jamaat. Drawing on the Qur'anic examples of Hazrat Adam (as) and Hazrat Dawud (as), Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) points out that those Khulafatullah were indeed Messengers of Allah as well.

Read the Extracts from a Jamaat communication sharing the response of Hazrat Khalifatullah (aba) in this regard, on the Qur'anic antecedents of the concept of Khalifatullah:

'The answer to this question can be found in several verses of the Holy Quran. If we delve into the Holy Quran, we find that Allah has said as from the second chapter itself, i.e. Al-Baqarah, that He shall place His Representative (Khalifa) on earth.

Allah says:

“Behold, your Lord said to the angels: Verily I will create a vicegerent (Khalifa) on earth.” (Al-Baqara 2: 31).

The Khalifa (Caliph) whom Allah raises comes from Him, and not through any election promoted by man. He takes instructions only from Allah – i.e. divine instructions.

Eid-ul-Adha Sermon 2021

The Sacrifice of the Self

“Here I am, O Allah, here I am, Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise and thanks and all blessings and all sovereignty are Yours. You have no partner.”

Pilgrims chant this prayer during their pilgrimage, from within the boundaries of the Ka’aba to the plains of Arafat; A prayer that elegantly underlines the process of this enterprise- total devotion after a complete renunciation of worldly desires.

There are perhaps about sixty thousand pilgrims participating in the Hajj this year. Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, it is people of different nationalities who already live in Saudi Arabia who are making the pilgrimage this year. This is the second time in this century [the 21st century], as well as since the founding of Saudi Arabia [in 1932] that the Hajj has not taken place under normal conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its variants. Last year for the first time in Saudi Arabian history, Hajj was performed by just about a thousand people in Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims from other countries did not receive visas to perform Hajj during these two years as a precaution and to preserve the health and life of the pilgrims.

So in this century of divine manifestation, the Hajj, which usually attracts over a million pilgrims from dozens of countries, has not taken place under normal conditions.

All Muslims around the world cherish the desire to one day perform these sacred rites of Hajj - one of the five pillars of Islam. With this pandemic that has changed a lot of human behaviour, as well as the systems of the world, Hajj is no exception. Despite the Hajj taking place, but its normality is abruptly interrupted.

For the hundreds of millions of Muslims who stay at home, and who mourn this loss of non-observance of Hajj, because of this restriction, there is Eid-ul-Adha, celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Hajj [Dhul-Hijjah] when, in Mecca, the pilgrimage ends. Devotees usually go to the mosque for prayers, after which they slaughter animals as sacrifices. In these days how necessary it is for every believer to remember his duties towards his Creator as well as towards his fellow men!

The Promise on 'Khilafat-e-Ruhani'

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian (1835-1908 AD),  founder of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, left behind a treasure trove of illuminating spiritual writings, explaining subtle and abstruse points of religious philosophy and practical wisdom useful in our quest for clear guidance on the Divine Way. It is important to revisit and re-read his profound and timeless writings every now and then, to gain a sense of true perspective on the extraordinary nature of the spiritual claims and Divine messages he left behind for the benefit of posterity. Perhaps even more importantly, returning to the original writings of the Promised Messiah (as) and studying them carefully can shake up the cobwebs of later theological 'engineering' and doctrinal confusion created in the minds of common Ahmadis by the administrative establishment- Nizam-e-Jamaat- to perpetuate their own control and authority. Due to the long-standing brainwashing by the Ahmadiyya establishment, the common folks have no idea how they have been transformed into devotees of the Nizam even without they realizing it!

Indeed, ours is an age in which most Ahmadis have forgotten their own true spiritual moorings. In any case, most people have a blurred and twisted understanding on the basics of their community's true beliefs or their deep roots in Islamic spiritual expectations.  Unfortunately for them, the devotees are not allowed to use their own God-gifted intelligence and reasoning power to investigate and understand the inner world of Islamic spirituality. People remain content with the received notions from their elders- what they have inherited from their fathers and leaders within the Nizam-e- Jamaat. As a consequence, a generation is growing up in the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya who cannot frame relevant spiritual questions for themselves, nor explain where the Promised Messiah (as) stood on the question of enduring Divine Guidance and spiritual leadership ('Khilafat-e-Ruhani').

Contrary to the myth-making within the Nizam-e-Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya, the Promised Messiah (as) did not believe that Revelation-based Khilafat has come to an end with him, and that henceforth, only men-elected caliphs will be the leaders of the Ummah, NO! The Promised Messiah (as) claimed that he came as a Khalifatullah  (Vicegerent of God) and with the title of a 'Nabi' in the Ummat-e-Muhammadiyya, and that there could be many other individuals like him in future as well.
