Qur’an and Spiritual Life

‘Indeed the Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.’  [17:9]

‘We send the Qur’an as healing and mercy for those who believe (17:82)

‘One who recites the Qur’an is like a citron, whose flavour is good and whose scent is good. One who does not recite the Qur’an is like a date, whose flavour is good but which has no scent. An immoral person who recites the Qur’an is like basil, whose scent is good but whose taste is bitter. And an immoral person who does not recite the Qur’an is like the colocynth, whose taste is bitter and which has no scent.’

                                - Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa)

On Monday 12 August 2024, in a special ‘Question and Answer’ session with Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Al Mahdi Munir Ahmad Azim (aba), a bunch of Muslim students from the University of Mauritius had the chance of a lifetime to seek spiritual guidance from the Shiekh-ul-Islam of this era, Alhamdulillah, Summa Alhamdulillah.

Reproduced below is a summary of the responses given by Hazrat Saheb (aba) to the questions that were raised on the occasion:

I.                  Benefits of Reciting some ‘Surahs’ of the Holy Qur’an:

There are many Surahs , which is of special benefit for the believers to recite:

1.   Surah Fatihah: One can recite it for cure from any kind of sickness.

   2. Surah Baqarah: To drive out the Satan from a house or haunted place or for progress and 'Barakah' in one's assets.

    3. Surah Al Imran: One should recite it so that his sins would be forgiven on the Day of Resurrection.

  4. Aayatul Kursi: If anyone recites it, he, his family members and his belongings will be safeguarded against all calamities and hazards.

  5.  Surah Kahf:    It should be recited for 'Noor' and for security against the fitnah of Dajjaal.

  6.  Surah Yaaseen: It can be recited for various purposes. If recited for a dying person, his soul will depart easily.

If recited for departed souls, their sins will be forgiven.

One can recite it for progress and 'Barakah' in his property as well as for easing one's task during the day or for one's forgiveness on the day of resurrection.

    7.  Surah Waaqi'ah: It can be recited for getting easy livelihood.

    8.  Surah Mulk: One should recite it for security against punishment in grave.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud says: ‘Whoever recites Surah Mulk every night, Allah will protect him from the punishment of the grave by virtue of this Surah. In the time of Rasulullah (sa), we named this Surah ‘Al Mani’ah’ (prevents the punishment of the grave). It is such a Surah, whoever recites it every night has certainly done a lot, and has done good.’ (Nasa’i, Hadith: 10479)

     9.  Surah Ikhlaas: to receive reward equal to one third of the Holy Quran.

   10. Surah Falaq and Surah Naas: If recited, one will be protected against 'Nazr', Jinn, witchcraft, thieves, harmful animals and insects etc.

NOTE:

The first and primary purpose of reciting the Holy Qur'an or any part of it or any particular Surah of it, should be for the pleasure of Allah.

II. ‘When we are surrounded by financial problem and debt, is there any especial Duah to recite?’

You know, actually many people surrounded by financial problem or find themselves unable to pay back their debt, turn to Allah and recite this Duah excessively:

‘Allaahummak finee bi-halaalika an haraamika wa agh-ni-nee bifadh-lika amman siwaaka’.

‘O Allah, provide me with lawful livelihood, adequate to my needs instead of ill-gotten one, and graciously grand me freedom from needing anything from anyone besides Yourself’.

III. How to thank Allah when a Duah is accepted?

Anyone who observes his Duah is granted by Allah [ought to be grateful for the Divine favour.] The Messenger of Allah (sa) is reported to have said that anyone who finds that his Duah has been granted, such as cure from a particular sickness, or sickness or safe return from a journey; what prevents him from Thanking the Almighty Allah in these words:

‘Alhamdu lil-laahil lathee bi ni'mathihee ta-timmus saalihaat’.

[All praise is due to Allah, by whose Honour and Majesty, deeds of virtue are accomplished].
