An Interview with Imam Mahdi

Today, 19 April 2024, marks the 21st anniversary of the first Bai’at [the covenant of repentance with God] initiated and accepted by Hazrat Amir-ul-Mu’mineen Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Al Mahdi Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius on 19 April 2003. On that day in 2003, soon after the demise of the fourth caliph of the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Mirza Tahir Ahmad Saheb [1928-2003] in London [UK], Hazrat Amir-ul-Mu’mineen (aba) received the Divine instruction to accede to the request of Muslim brothers and sisters in Mauritius to receive Bai’at in the Hand of Allah (represented by the hand of Hazrat Imam (aba)]; marking an important milestone in the sacred history and trajectory of Islamic renewal over the centuries. Accordingly, the first Bai’at was held that evening in the house of Hazrat Ummul Mu'mineen Fazli Amena Saheba on the second storey, at Louvet Avenue, Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius. From that momentous occasion, over the last two decades, the spiritual mission of Hazrat Khalifatullah Al Mahdi (aba) has been, and is, thriving by the grace and blessings of Allah (swt). And for true spiritual seekers- those who have eyes to observe, ears to listen and hearts to understand-, the support and help of God is clearly evident in the progressive trajectory of the Divine Manifestation of our era, Subhaan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allah-u-Akbar!

It is absolutely certain that Hazrat Imam Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius has appeared as a servant of Faith in our midst with proof from Allah the Almighty. The divine revelations vouchsafed to Hazrat Saheb (aba) comprises matters of the unseen and prophecies with regard to the future, acceptance of prayer, revelation in various languages, and revelation of points of wisdom and divine truths- exactly like in the times of the promised messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) of Qadian [1835-1908]. Since all this is divine testimony, it is the duty of everyone who possesses faith to accept his claim  as the servant of God in this era, the Divinely-raised ‘Muhyiuddin’/ ‘Mujaddid’/ ‘Khalifatullah’/’ Dhul Qarnain’/ ‘Imam Mahdi’- all being spiritual titles bestowed by the Lord Himself upon His servant of this era.

Indeed this historic moment is an occasion to reflect upon the great bounty of God for the renewal of Islam in the Later Days, with the advent of Al Imam Al Mahdi as the Divinely-raised servant of Faith. Imam Mahdi is, literally and spiritually, the Guided One; the Elect of God; a man illumined, inspired and taught by God through revelations; the one who speaks with the help of the Holy Spirit [‘Rooh-il-Qudus’] and guides humanity towards a truer appreciation of the spiritual path of Islam, the correct and straight highway to God for all humanity till the Day of Judgment. The arrival of Imam Mahdi in the Later Days is a pious hope of Divine grace and blessings on the Muslim Ummah; a spiritual expectation of pure guidance and exemplary leadership for the community at large at a time of great turbulence in the world, and much  spiritual confusion and doctrinal misperception among the believers.

The spiritual mission of Imam Mahdi is to re-establish the primacy and superiority of God’s way [Islam] as the correct path, or to free the people from the filth of idolatry and evil so as to establish them firmly on Divine Oneness, and to caution and warn about the futility of pursuing other ways afflicted by the touch of Satan and ‘Taghut’. Hence, based on prophetic traditions chronicled in the sacred books of the Muslims over the millennia, all over the world, most Muslims are awaiting the arrival of Imam Mahdi. Both the Shi’ahs and the Sunnis, the major denominational groups in Islam, are united in their belief about the advent of Imam Mahdi before the final dominance of Islam over ideologies distorted and corrupted by the hand of men.

According to widely-known Islamic teachings, when the need for the renewal of the Faith arises in the conditions of the Ummah, Allah (swt) chooses whomsoever He wills among His servants, and He sends such a messenger or an Imam to mankind. In the terminology of the believers, such a Divine servant is known as Mujaddid, Khalifatullah, Muhyiuddin, Massih, etc. And man’s own intrinsic intelligence suffices for him to appreciate the Divine wisdom behind this heavenly arrangement for pure guidance. Indeed, true guidance is the guidance of Allah, and such a guidance can only be brought by a chosen servant of God who speaks with the help of Rooh-il-Qudus. With a pure heart and mind, if people reflect over the spiritual teachings of Islam, including the prophecies and promises contained in the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the Holy Prophet (sa) concerning the renewal of Islam in the Later Days, and observe the existing conditions of the Ummah in our times, they will recognize that both reason and revelation point to the essential truth of those teachings, and that ours is indeed the times of Imam Mahdi.

Consider the heavenly signs of the last two decades. During the just concluded fasting month of Ramadan 2024 [11 March 2024- 10 April 2024], the world of Islam witnessed the rare heavenly phenomenon of double eclipses: a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse. Likewise, in the beginning phase of the present Divine Manifestation in Mauritius in the person of Hazrat Saheb (aba), almost 21 years ago, in November 2003, an exceptionally unique, grand celestial sign of the total eclipse of the Sun and the Moon took place in the same Holy Month of Ramadan 1424 [09 & 23 November 2003]. Against this backdrop of the fulfillment of Divine promises concerning celestial signs of Imam Mahdi, in his Friday Sermon of 25 March 2011, responding to a question about heavenly signs in favour of his claim of being the Imam Mahdi of this era, Hazrat Saheb (aba), acknowledged:

''Allah has sent this humble self with lots of heavenly signs and the most flagrant and being a prophecy of both the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) is the eclipse of both the moon and the sun in the same month of Ramadan back in November 2003 (November 9 and 23). At that time (in the Jamaat Ahmadiyya Al Muslemeen), Allah made me stood up and proclaim that I was the one whose advent is announced through this heavenly sign in our present era, that this sign is for the advent of this humble self.'

In a recent interview with Hazrat Tayyeba Nasrine Aliah, Imam- Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International Hazrat Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Al Mahdi Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius profoundly reiterates His divinely-imbued status and spiritual mission over the last two decades against the backdrop of this vital heavenly sign- solar and lunar eclipses in the holiest month of Ramadan in the times of a Divinely-raised exemplar of Faith- pertaining to the appearance of ‘Al Imam Al Mahdi’ in the Later Days of Islam, Subhaan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allah-u-Akbar!
