A True Muslim Life

Never neglect the Sunnah!

The life of a true Muslim is one that is shaped by complete submission to Allah, guided by the Holy Qur’an and illuminated by the example of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Holy Qur’an itself commands obedience not only to Allah but also to His Messenger, for the Holy Prophet (pbuh) is described as the living embodiment of the Qur’an; his actions, words, and manner of life explain and clarify the divine verses. To follow the Holy Qur’an without the Sunnah and Hadiths is to miss the practical demonstration of its meaning, for Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) showed through his daily conduct how the commands of Allah are to be lived in reality.

The first step in the life of a Muslim is the remembrance of Allah from the moment of waking. Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) taught simple but profound supplications to be recited at the start of the day, such as: “Alhamdulillahil-lazi ahyana ba‘da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur” (Praise be to Allah Who gave life after death and to Him is the return). This sets the tone of gratitude and awareness of the Creator. Throughout the day, the Muslim continues to recite such Duahs as taught in the Qur'an and also those of the Sunnah, for example before eating, after finishing a meal, when entering or leaving the home, and before sleeping. These supplications are not mere words; they are like a lightning strike that evokes that every action, however ordinary, is connected to Allah and should be performed with His remembrance.

The Life of the Holy Prophet

The life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is an ocean of wisdom, mercy, and divine guidance. Today, we will not speak in depth about the great battles he fought or the miracles he performed, but rather we will focus on the moments of tenderness, reflection, silent sorrow, and discreet greatness that reveal the depth of his character.

In the Qur’an, Allah says regarding His beloved Prophet (pbuh):  “And indeed, you are of a great moral character.” (Al-Qalam 68: 5). This character, this level of excellent morality, is manifested in the small anecdotes of his life – anecdotes that may seem insignificant but are in truth deeply meaningful and powerful.

For example, when he was still a child, Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) was entrusted to a wet nurse from among the Bedouins named Halima Saadia. This choice was not made in vain or without significance – No! In ancient times, the Arabs believed that children raised in the desert would develop a pure Arabic tongue and a strong character. Halima Saadia was a grateful woman. When she was given the responsibility of caring for Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), although he was fatherless, this did not prevent her from taking care of this extraordinary baby. From the moment Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) entered her life, Allah’s blessings entered her home and her life as a whole. She and her husband, Al-Harith, witnessed miracles: their animals began producing more milk, and their lands became more fertile. This shows that even before Allah officially raised Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) as His Prophet, his very arrival into this world was a Barakah (blessing).

Noble and Inspiring Traits

The Impact of the Holy Prophet’s Good Character on Society

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) was renowned for his exceptional ability to touch people’s hearts by adapting his approach to what suited them best. When he lost his paternal uncle, who had always acted as his protector against the hostility of other members of his tribe – the Quraysh – as well as other tribes, the Quraysh intensified their persecution against him after his uncle’s death. To escape this oppression and in the hope of gaining the support and protection of the Banu Thaqif tribe for his followers, he decided to travel to Ta’if. He also hoped that this tribe would accept Allah’s message, which he had been sent to deliver on behalf of Allah. He thus embarked on this journey alone as a testament to his faith and determination.
