Kaja Mydeen Sahib (1937-2020)

Janab Kaja Mydeen Sahib (1937-2020), one of the senior-most members of the Jamaat-Ul-Sahih Al Islam in India and the patriarch of a large family of Jamaat members in Tamil Nadu, passed away at the age of 83 years at his home-town, Meleppalayam-Tirunelveli, this week, Innallilaahi wa inna ilayhi raajeeoun.

The death of Janab Kaja Mydeen Sahib occurred against the backdrop of his age-related ailments getting aggravated at a time when India is facing multiple challenges of responding to the Covid-19 pandemic- including adequate facilities for accurate medical testing and other timely-intervention procedures. At a time when the pandemic has exacerbated the 'social virus' of fear and loathing; dehumanizing stereotyping and collective prejudices based on faith/group-based identities among myopic people, Imam-Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam Hadhrat Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (atba) of Mauritius, in his remarks at the Friday Sermon of 08 May 2020 ~14 Ramadan 1441 AH provides healing words for the bruised souls. May Allah (swt) forgive and elevate the status of the departed soul in Jannat-ul-Firdaus, and grant his family and dear ones all the strength to hold patience, to remain steadfast amidst the trials of faith, Aameen, Summa Aameen Ya Rabbi'l Aalameen.

'...I announce the sad news of the death of the father of my dear disciple K.M. Saleem Sahib, yesterday 07 May 2020. His name was Kaja Mydeen [Khawja Mohyuddin] (like his son). He was 8 [3] years old. During my visit to India in the year 2018, I had met him, and after this meeting he made the decision to integrate the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam just like his sons, his wife and his entire family [except for one of his daughters]. Exactly one year ago, he fell seriously ill and his family informed me of his critical condition and saw a miracle when he recovered. Alhamdulillah. Admittedly, this was only a reprieve from Allah, and after exactly one year (May 07, 2019-2020), his time arrived and Allah took him with Him (same decreed date – 07 May). Innallilaahi wa inna ilayhi raajeeoune.

[Hazrat Khalifatullah (atba) then related a dream he saw on 06 May 2020 in the morning after the Sehri and the Salaat-ul-Fajr, long before receiving the news of the hospitalization of Kaja Mydeen Sahib [he was very sick]. He saw a gathering of people, and a few people took a person who was covered in purple clothing [or fabrics], and they grabbed his hand to take him with them. So Hazrat Khalifatullah (atba) stopped them and told them where they were taking this person, to leave him because this person was with him, but they refused and told him that they should take him with them. Hazrat Khalifatullah (atba) insisted that this person was with him and to return him, but they refused again and said that they cannot return him. Suddenly the purple garment or fabric that covered that person changed and became white shirt and pants and for the Khalifatullah, it was a young person which they were taking with them. At that time Hazrat Khalifatullah (atba) knew that something was going to happen, a misfortune, and he thought which young person would suffer some misfortune (even death). And it was in the evening, after the Tarawee prayers, around 10-10.30 PM (local time in Mauritius), that Kaja Mydeen Sahib’s son phoned him to tell him that his father was very sick, and that he was hospitalised.]

Certainly, we all belong to Allah, and it is to Him the return. He succumbed to his illness, which became more serious with Coronavirus contamination, according to the Indian government officials.

In this terrible pain, his entourage, the non-Sahih-al-Islam Ahmadis are delighted with this news of a COVID-19 death and they take malicious pleasure in blaming my dear disciple Saleem Sahib for having led his whole family, including his father on a path devoid of light. They forget at the same time that the same treatment was given to the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) and his followers during the manifestation of the plague. They forget that the Promised Messiah confirmed that Ahmadis succumbed to the plague [and He had even said that Qadian will be spared but this was not the case] and that in no way meant that the Ahmadiyya Community, or that his mandate as Messiah and Messenger of God was wrong. Nawzubillah. [Reference: Haqiqatul Wahy, English version p. 713, published by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community].

And they forget that even their spiritual leader announced the death of his members of COVID-19, including a servant [Rana Naeemuddin Sahib] who served the Khilafatul-Massih since the time of Musleh Ma’oud (ra) and who died at the age of 86.

They rejoice, but forget that Allah has all the power to overthrow their mockery and afflict them with misfortune [though I am not praying for their misfortune]. Certainly, I am really worried about these people who heap my sincere disciples with accusations of all kinds. I do not worry about my sincere disciples because I am completely confident that Allah will protect them all the time, as He demonstrates it in many ways on a daily basis. Certainly, they will go through all kinds of trials just like the Khalifatullah for that matter, but our veracity will soon be perceived by sincere hearts and those thirsty for [divine] light. Insha-Allah.

Yesterday (07 May 2020), around 14.50, after speaking with Saleem Sahib on the very critical health of his father, I begged Allah a lot to give all his family and him also patience during these very difficult times. Allah revealed this text to me about patience:

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim

Allah Ta’ala says, “Help yourself through As-Sabr and prayer. Surely Allah is with those who are patient.” (Al-Baqara 2: 154).

As-Sabr: Perseverance, patience and endurance is one of the duties of the heart. It consists in slowing down the soul and forcing it to endure that which opposes its inclinations or to abandon pleasures. As-Sabr is of three kinds: Persevere in the practice of what Allah has made obligatory as obedience. Be patient while guarding against what Allah has forbidden us.

    1. Persevere in the practice of what Allah has made obligatory: It is to compel the soul to apply the religious obligations that Allah (swt) has ordered, to remain faithful in the oneness of Allah, to accept the Messenger of Allah, respect your oaths of allegiance (Bai’at) that you made with Allah and His Messenger despite the great difficulties that are coming.

    2. Wait for what Allah has decreed, do not turn your back on what Allah has decreed and this requires a great effort to constrain your soul and to keep it from committing forbidden things, from saying bad words to Allah and His Messenger, giving up prayer and other things that you used to do for the cause of Allah. Take a beautiful patience so that you may get a great reward.

    3. Endure in difficulties and trials: That is to say, vis-à-vis what disturbs his soul: suffering, pain, difficulties in living conditions or sadness that affects man because of ‘a misfortune’. The life of this temporal world is indeed the abode of adversity and testing as well as the abode of works, while the hereafter is the abode of accountability. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “Surely Allah Ta’ala said: 'When I test My slave by the loss of the use of his eyes and he waits, I give him paradise in return'."

Satisfaction with Allah, in the sense of submitting to Him: it is the duty of each responsible person not to object to Allah Ta’ala and to be satisfied with His predestination and His decree.

Satisfaction with Allah [To be pleased with Allah and accept what He has decreed for you] is one of the duties of the heart. It means to be submissive to Him (twa). In fact many people fall into sins because they have not patience in times of trials. They fall into even more serious sins, turning their backs on Allah (twa) and His Messenger, and ridiculing divine words. It is suitable for all those who are in the divine ship which has as its spiritual captain the Messenger of Allah to embellish themselves with patience and to accustom their soul to be patient, to submit entirely to Allah and to trust in Him in any circumstance.

It was only around 16.05 local time (Mauritius) that my dear disciple Saleem Sahib called me to inform me about the death of his father. After comforting and encouraging him, around 16.20, I received these Qur’anic verses as revelations:

    • Wa’ufaw-wizu amrii ilallaah. Innallaaha Basiirum bil ibaad.
I entrust my fate to Allah. It is Allah, surely, Who watches over His servants.

    • Fasbir inna wa-dallaahi Haqq.
So be patient because the promise of Allah is true.

    • Laa yaguurannaka taqal lubullaziina kafaruu fil-bilaad.
Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land.

    • Mataa-un-qaliil.
It will be a poor enjoyment for them.

    • Ibadour Allah Raheem-ouk-Allah. Faskeem Billah.
O servants of Allah, the mercy of Allah is upon you. Stand firm with Allah.

Here is the report I received from his eldest son, K. Shanavaz Sahib [this morning]:

Asalamoalaikum warahmathulahi va barakathahu

Asalam alaikum Huzur,

Our father had took medicines for the disease in his heart and the lungs about 20 years. From past two days his wheezing increased because of the disease in the lungs. Since, in this lockdown situation we have no choice other than admitting him in Government hospital on 6th May 2020. And on 7th May around 2:30 PM he passed away.

While he was in hospital they said that after receiving the results of the corona test only will start the treatment, till that they gave only some first aid. When they found blood clot in his mucus they decided that he has corona (COVID-19). And then they stopped giving oxygen to him and took him to corona isolation ward nearly about 1 PM, and in short while he passed away (inalilaah).

And around 2:30 PM I asked help with Akbar Ali sahib of Ahmadiya Muslim Jamaat to allot a space in the burial ground (Kabarstan) – who called me and asked about the father’s health situation. He discussed with the jamaat members and they said “Kaja Maideen sahib is not in our Jamaat for about two years and even he was not coming for Jummah Namaz, and government has announced that he has corona positive and to take decision we have to get permission from Qadian that may be get delayed, so you try somewhere else.”

Around 3 O’clock Government sanitary officer contacted me, we asked him permission to bury in our place (VK Puram, [Siraj] Munir Masjid place). He denied permission and told that in this situation we can’t take that far and Government will take steps to bury in your nearby burial ground. Government officials, Politicians discussed with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat members. Though they denied initially and later after giving permission, they sent their Khudhams and they have given whole support and helped a lot to happen the burial. Around 9 PM in presence of Government officials with the help of our Jamat brothers and Ahmadiya jamat Khudhams his burial has [been] done in a good way.

Huzur kindly dua for my father’s mahfirath, for our family wellness, and our Imaan to get more strong.

Wassalaam,
K. Shanavaz
Finance Secretary
Brother of Salim sahib

It was his son Nazir Sahib, our Secretary of Tarbiyyat of Melepalayam who led his father’s Salat-ul-Janaza, accompanied by some members of his family [and our members of the Jamaat].

We appreciate that the Amir of Jamaat Ahmadiyya from this place [Tirunelveli] made a very wise decision after government officials spoke to him. Alhamdulillah. May Allah help him in his task, to remain faithful to the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and the Promised Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as). Ameen. I also thank the Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya of this place also who gave a good helping hand for this funeral. May Allah open the way for them just as they have opened the way for our members of the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam and help them [because they have demonstrated the spirit, of Love for all, Hatred for None]. Ameen.

May Allah continue to protect His Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam and His devotees and elevate their status in this world and the hereafter.

May Allah have mercy on His servants and protect their faith from the evil of His creatures. Ameen.

After the Salat-ul-Jummah, I will lead the Salat-ul-Janaza Ghaib of Marhoom Kaja Mydeen [Khawja Mohyuddin] Sahib. May Allah forgive him for all his faults and weaknesses, [like any human being] and reward him for his loyalty to Him and His Messenger and grant him a high place in Jannat-ul-Firdaus. May Allah grant His protection and blessings to his family and give them health, courage, patience and serenity during these difficult times. Ameen.
