10 Muharram: The Day of ‘Ashura
'...Like you all know, today we are the 9th of Muharram 1445 Hijri, and tomorrow 10th of Muharram will be the Day of Ashura here in Mauritius. The Day of Ashura commemorates the victory of Moses over Pharaoh, and the Muslims were commanded by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to fast it as they had more rights on Moses (as) than did the Jews.
In a Hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Musa (ra), he said that the day of ‘Ashura’ was considered as Eid day by the Jews. So the Prophet (pbuh) ordered to all Muslims, “I recommend you (Muslims) to fast on this day.” (Bukhari)
