'Ramadan Mubarak!'

Ramadan & Its Light

'Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction. So whoever is present this month, let him fast.' (Quran 2: 186)

Alhamdulillah, Summa Alhamdulillah, with my recent trip to India, I thank my Lord for allowing me to meet my sincere disciples and make our programs with His blessings and graces. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this trip a memorable one.

With Shabaan drawing to a close, and the most blessed of Ramadan coming, it is the duty of every believer who is healthy to fast as per the commandment of Allah.

It is a great blessing for all of us Muslims to have been granted Islam as the most perfect and complete religion. Allah has completed this Deen and has given us this great blessing to fast for Him. Fasting existed in all religions before Islam, but Allah perfected fasting in Islam, where it is the best fast that exists. Today (unfortunately), many Muslims do not give importance to fasting (Sawm). If they knew how many blessings, how many benefits are associated therewith, they would hurry to keep fasting (Ramadan fasts) for Allah, because the reward of fasting is Allah Himself.

It is in the Quran that Allah has established His commandments, including to keep fasting (during the month of Ramadan), and we have obtained the Sunnah (practice) of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) to show us how to practice our Deen in the best way.

Quran is the word of Allah and it has many effects; think about the people who accept Islam only after they have heard the reading of the Quran! And a very clear example of this is Hazrat Umar (ra) who was the fiercest enemy of Islam and whose heart changed only when he heard the Quran and Iman (faith) came to him: faith in Allah, His words and prophet (pbuh).

The Quran is an unlimited treasure. Its benefits are not only for this world but also for the hereafter. The commandments of Allah to keep fasting, especially fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, is a golden opportunity to maximize the recitation of the Quran, and to meditate on the words of Allah and put those commandments into practice in our everyday lives. Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) used to recite the Quran more and more during Ramadan. According to one Hadith, Hazrat Jibreel (as) used to come to make him recite the Quran. The reading or recitation of the Holy Quran is one of the best Zikr, because it contains as many remedies for the heart of a believer.

Indeed, if the diseases of the heart boil down to (i.e. results in) doubts and relaxation of the Nafs (ego) [whereby it hankers and sticks more to the world and its attractions rather than to Allah, Islam and Spirituality], the Quran is the best remedy because it contains two striking proofs to distinguish truth from falsehood.

Therefore, the one who studies the Quran with his heart will be able to distinguish between truth and falsehood. Quran is the best means that a servant of Allah has to bring himself closer to his Lord. He who loves the Quran, loves Allah and His Messenger as well. And the ones who love Allah and His Messenger (pbuh), as well as all the Messengers that Allah sends for the revivification of His Deen, those are blessed and very fortunate people.

May Allah bless all those who please Him and submit their obedience to Him and His Messengers and defend His Deen with all their means in order to revive the true teachings of Allah in the world, Insha-Allah, Ameen.
