A Pious Progeny- 2

In Prayer & with Good Manners

Alhamdulillah, in continuation of the subject I addressed last Friday, every Muslim must keep in mind that his household is a treasure which Allah has entrusted to him as a sacred deposit (Amaanah). It is a place of happiness, piety, tranquillity and protection. When a couple is united through Nikah (marriage contract approved by Allah), that moment is not merely a social ceremony; it is a sacred covenant before Allah. A home founded upon Nikah, mutual respect, sacrifice and understanding becomes a source of light and blessing. Allah says in the Qur’an: “And among His signs is that He created for you, from yourselves, spouses so that you may find tranquillity with them, and He placed between you affection and mercy.” (ArRum 30: 22)

A Pious Progeny

In Prayer & with Good Manners (Part 1)

The importance of Salat (especially the Obligatory Prayers) and the richness of good conduct, and remaining in the state of good conduct, are among the greatest responsibilities that parents must instill and implement in the lives of their children. They must keep in mind that this is a nonnegotiable subject which encompasses the entire life of a Muslim. Prayer (Salat) is not merely a formal obligation; it is a spiritual discipline which shapes character, purifies the heart, and brings man closer to his Creator.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Wa aqimissalata li Zikri”

And establish the prayer for My remembrance. (Taha 20: 15)

This verse shows that Salat is a constant reminder of Allah, a protection against forgetfulness, and a light for life. In the Qur’an, Allah says:

“InnasSalata tanha ‘anil fahshaa’i wal munkar”

Surely prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds. (Al‘Ankabut 29: 46)

This proves that Salat (Prayer) is a means of disciplining behaviour and keeping man away from sin.

Prayer in Islam

The Importance of the Middle Prayer & Of the Obligatory Prayers in General

Haafizuu ‘alas-Salawaati was-Salaatil-wustaa; wa quu-muu lillaahi qaanitiin. “Guard your prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before Allah with devotion.” (Al-Baqara 2: 239)

This sacred verse is a fundamental reminder that a true believer must never neglect his Salat (prayer). He must observe his prayer with care, respect, constancy, and complete submission before Allah. When we look at the origin of the words and the deeper meaning of the term Haafizu, we find extraordinary depth. In Arabic, Haafizu comes from hifz or ha-fa-za, which means to guard, protect, preserve. But it is not limited to outward protection; it implies inner vigilance, a discipline that resists the forces that try to divert a believer from his duty.

In its profound sense, especially in this Qur’anic verse, Haafizu is a command from Allah, instructing believers to maintain constancy and faithfulness in observing prayer, and to struggle continuously against neglecting their Salat. Protecting prayer is like placing a spiritual umbrella over the whole life of a believer; it becomes a source of blessings and a defence against evil.

Divine Mercy

In a world filled with distractions, pain, and uncertainty, there remains one truth that is stable and eternal: Divine Mercy. Allah, the Creator of all the worlds, is full of Rahma – that is, a tenderness and compassion that surpasses all human understanding. At the beginning of every Surah in the Qur’an (except Surah At-Taubah), we find this invocation: Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful). These two attributes, Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim, are derived from the word Rahm, which means: the maternal womb – a symbol of deep love, protection, and gentleness. This shows that Divine Mercy is not merely an abstract concept, but a living reality that envelops all of creation.

In Surah Al-A’raf, Verse 157, Allah says: “My mercy encompasses all things.” And in Surah Az-Zumar, Verse 54, He says: “O My servants who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.” These words are a comfort to the heart; a call towards hope, towards returning to Allah in repentance, towards light after darkness.

In a Hadith Qudsi reported by Bukhari and Muslim, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Allah said: My mercy prevails over My wrath.” This Hadith forms a foundation in Islamic understanding: Allah is Just, but His Mercy is vaster than His punishment. He gives every soul a chance to return sincerely to Him, in obedience.

Battles of the Heart

The Struggle between Divine Will & Ego’s Wish

In daily life, every person finds themselves confronted by an inner struggle; a battle not visible to the naked eye, yet very real within the heart and mind. It is not a war fought with swords or guns, but a silent conflict – a battle between good and evil; between light and darkness. It is a clash between divine guidance and personal desires; between what Allah has commanded and what the Nafs (the passionate soul) yearns to do. This struggle does not begin in the streets or in society; it begins within the heart itself. It is a constant battle; it starts from childhood and lasts until death. Whoever triumphs in this struggle achieves true success.

The Holy Qur’an describes the Nafs in various ways. There is the Nafs that inclines towards evil, known as “an-nafs al-ammarah bis-su’,” as mentioned in Surah Yusuf, Verse 54: “Indeed, the soul commands evil, except for the one upon whom my Lord has mercy.” This state is dangerous, for it normalises sin; it justifies disobedience; it turns what is forbidden into pleasure. Yet Allah, in His mercy, grants the opportunity to purify this Nafs, to transform it into a tranquil soul (an-nafs al-mutma’innah), as mentioned in Surah Al-Fajr: “O soul at peace, return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing.”

The Next Life

In the Islamic view of life, nothing is more important than success in the eternal life; the life after death. This success isn’t measured by wealth or comfort, but by entering Paradise after receiving Allah’s forgiveness. That is the true triumph: when a person rises above the limits of this worldly life and reaches an everlasting life filled with endless joy. In His infinite wisdom, Allah has set clear signs to guide us towards this noble destination.

A Muslim is invited to seek Allah’s pleasure and stay away from anything that brings His anger. This doesn’t just mean avoiding sins; it means living a life that reflects divine values and principles, with the hope that Allah will welcome us with His mercy – not only when we leave this world, but also on the Day of Judgement. Allah says in Surah Al-Imran (3: 32): “Say: If you truly love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

This verse reminds us that Allah’s love comes through obedience to the Prophet – whether it’s the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), or any prophet sent in different times to revive Islam in the hearts of those who had forgotten it. We must remember that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the perfect example for all humanity, even for the prophets who came and who will continue to come after him. These prophets are called to uphold his honour, the honour of Allah –our Creator, and to restore the true value of the Qur’an. The life of the Prophet is a model of virtue for all of us. Whoever follows his path will receive Allah’s forgiveness and love – two essential gifts for entering Paradise.

Duahs for Palestine

The holy month of Ramadan is a time of special signififcance for devout Muslims around the world. During this august spiritual occasion, they observe pious acts of Faith in remembrance of Divine commands, and engage in worshipful prayers seeking Divine mercy and grace for personal and social benefits, and for peace and justice in the world, for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah and global humanity. This year, on 28 March 2025~27 Ramadan 1446 AH, on the blessed occassion of the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, the living servant of Islam and holy founder of the Jamaat Ul Sahih Al Islam International, Hazrat Imam Al Mahdi Al Khalifatullah Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius, delivered a spiritually- illuminating Friday Sermon on the highway to God, explaining the profound meaning of Islam and Imaan.

Being Muslim entails a commitment to justice and fairness; a rejection of oppression and persecution; resistance to disorder and domineering through lawful means and methods; and invocation of soulful prayers for change of fortunes in favour of the oppressed peoples. Reproduced below are extracts from the aforesaid Friday Sermon containing fervent supplications to the Almighty Allah by this humble servant and elect of God Almighty seeking erasure of a genocidal order in Israel and the emancipation of the oppressed in Palestine:

'When you look at what is happening outside, especially in Palestine, small children – little ones – are sacrificing and keeping fasts with just a sip of water. They have nothing to break their fast with, nothing to eat for Sehri/ Suhur; what kind of hardship they are going through. Some have lost their parents; some have lost their wives, some have lost their husbands, some have lost their children – all because of the oppression that these tyrants are committing. So, this month of Ramadan is a month for us to perform Jihad against these people. Our Jihad is not to throw bombs, not to take swords in our hands, not to kill. Our Jihad is to turn towards the One Who holds all power, that is, Allah; and it is Allah Who can bring an end to them for the kind of oppression they have committed.

Trials, Patience & Faith- 1

All people, at one moment or another, go through trials and difficulties in different forms – whether when their health deteriorates or old age comes – and they face many physical and morale problems. No one can say they’ve never known a health issue, a loss, a fear, or a disappointment. These trials walk hand in hand with the condition of human beings. And they do not affect only the poor, but also the rich. Everyone goes through trials – sometimes very hard, sometimes less so – but a trial nonetheless. Whether a person is young or old, all go through difficulties that they must overcome. These trials are manifestations of divine wisdom, tests that Allah sends to try our faith, our patience, our ability to endure these trials, and they are also tests that examine our trust in Allah.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: “And We tested them with good and evil so that they might return (to Us in repentance).” (Al-Araf 7: 169)

'Duah': A Prayer

O Lord of all the worlds!

It is beyond me to offer You gratitude for all Your favours.

You are most Merciful and Compassionate,

and the bounties that You have conferred upon me are countless.

Forgive me my sins, lest I am ruined.

Fill my heart with sincere love for You,

so that I may receive life.

Zionist Wars and the Awaited Messiah

The Signs of Qiyamah- 2

'But man desires to persist in his evil ways. He asks, “When will be this Day of Resurrection?” When eyes are dazzled and the moon is buried in darkness, and the sun and the moon are joined together, on that day man will say, “Where to escape?” Alas! There will be no refuge.' (Al-Qiyamah, 75: 6-12)

Humanity is in danger. Islam is in danger. Muslims are in danger. Innocents are in danger. A global community that preserves modesty and faith in one God is being beaten, crushed, and killed in extremist Zionist wars. As I mentioned last Friday, the Jews are doing all this to hasten the arrival of their Messiah, while the Christian world watches this disaster without taking real action, merely talking, condemning, and not taking steps to stop the bloodshed of innocents in Palestine and Lebanon, where over 2400 people have died since last year. These attacks on Lebanon are not just from last year or this year; they date back to 1978. This is what true terrorism looks like!

Signs of True Muslims

Tarbiyyat Lessons- 21

Islamic teachings empower individuals in their everyday lives. Divine commands in the Holy Qur’an guide our souls and minds to distinguish between what is right and wrong so as to truly prosper through a God-centric life of pure devotion, clean habits, justice-orientation, and spirit of kinship and service to all humanity. If we hold true Faith and sincere allegiance to the Way of Life practiced by the Holy Prophet of Islam (sa), it will enable us to form personal habits and preferences that will reflect the true wisdom of the same values he preached. When we embrace Islam in our inner temperament and behaviour, we will be intuitively guided to good deeds and productive habits; we will also move away from frivolity and wastage and bad habits, and truly prioritize that which will benefit the individual person, her family and friends and the society at large, both in this world and in the world to come, Insha Allah.

*****************

‘The servants of the Lord of Mercy are those who walk humbly on the earth, and who, when the foolish address them, reply, ‘Peace’; those who spend the night bowed down or standing, worshipping their Lord, who plead, ‘Our Lord, turn away from us the suffering of Hell, for it is a dreadful torment to suffer! It is an evil home, a foul resting place!’

They are those who are neither wasteful nor niggardly when they spend, but keep to a just balance; those who never invoke any other deity beside God, nor take a life, which God has made sacred, except in the pursuit of justice, nor commit adultery.

'Has God Stopped Talking?'

Proof of the Existence of God Almighty

In response to the question which I have received from a Muslim man who was about to renounce his faith in Islam and in Allah altogether, I am hereby through this sermon answering him so that this explanation may benefit one and all.

Is there conclusive evidence that God exists? Is the existence of God a fact that can be proven like any other scientific fact that can be proven in a laboratory?

It is surprising that atheists and believers today share the same belief regarding one of the attributes of God that provides conclusive proof of His existence. In today’s world, it is a fact that everyone agrees upon, both atheists and followers of the various religions of the world, that God has stopped talking.

Tarbiyyat Lessons- 18

‘Salah’: Five Times A Day

‘Why have prayers been prescribed for Muslims five times a day? It may be asked: would not once or twice, or whenever one happens to feel like it, be sufficient?’

In response to this set of questions from Mr. Louis Babel Christopher from Algeria, Hazrat Imam Muhyiuddin Al Khalifatullah Al Mahdi Munir Ahmad Azim (aba) of Mauritius states:

In answering these questions, it must first be pointed out that the Islamic prayers (salat) are somewhat different from "prayer" as used in the Christian sense, although personal supplication and glorification of God (known as Duah) are also a very important part of the Muslim's worship.

Basically, Islamic prayers consist of recitations from the Holy Quran and glorification of God accompanied by various bodily postures. The five times of worship correspond to the five periods of the day: daybreak, noon, afternoon, the close of day and night, corresponding to the organization of Man's time around various activities.

'Duah' for Healing

Tarbiyyat Lessons-16:

Duah for Prevention of Cancer

'Start reciting this powerful verse from the Qur'an, for yourself, and for your loved ones, and Allah will protect you from cancer developing in your body.

You must be always in a state of wudu (ablution). Recite every day, especially after Salah:

‘Rabbi qad aataitanee minal mulki wa allamtanee min taaweelil ahaadees, faati ras samaawaati wal ardi anta waliyyee fid Dunyaa wal Aakhirati tawaffanee Muslimanw wa alhiqnee bissaaliheen.’

‘My Lord! You have given me authority; You have taught me something about the interpretation of dreams; Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Let me die in true devotion to You. Join me with the righteous.’

'Eid-ul-Adha' Sermon 2024

The Pilgrimage & the Eid Festival

In Islam, Muslims around the world celebrate two Eids: Eid-ul-Fitr which marks the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, and Eid-ul-Adha which marks the end of the Hajj through a sacrifice of sheep or cattle or even camel, also known as sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (as), his son Isma’il (as) and his wife Hajra (ra). It is more commonly known as the festival of Udhiya (Arabic) or Qurbani (Urdu).

Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, comes in the last month of the lunar calendar, Dhul-Hijjah (which literally means, Month of Hajj). The Hajj is an exceptional occasion where Muslim unity appears in its finest form. The Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) sees itself united in the same spirit of sacrifice and in the same garment: two simple unsewn white cloths. Therefore, we bear witness to the unified state of Muslims, the same state that must be manifest in every Muslim throughout the world.

The Sheikh on Life Lessons- 2

'Allah it hurts; it hurts a lot.

know You see me struggle day in and day out.

No love is greater than Your love.

I shall be patient for Your sake.

Fix my heart, comfort my soul, Ya Rab...!

‘O my Rab,

from the bottom of my heart,

I want to thank You for loving me,

forgiving me, healing me,

and never leaving me’.

When Allah likes a person, then the condition of His liking is that He puts a lot of trials on that person. Allah tests that person again and again, because Allah wants to be close to him; Allah just wants to see how much patience and faith His servant has in his Rab.

God's plan is always the best. Sometimes the Process is painful and hard. But don't forget that when God is silent, He's doing something for you.

When someone speaks against you, speak well of them. When you are mistreated, treat them well. Repay Evil with Good, and God will fight your battles, Insha Allah.

'Eid-ul-Fitr' Sermon 2024

Eid-ul-Fitr, its Traditions & The Steps forward to Allah

EID-UL-FITR, a day of rejoicing, celebration, visits to relatives and neighbours is among us again. On this blessed day, not only adults are happy but children are also enthusiastic in their beautiful ornaments specially made or purchased for Eid. They are excited to meet their friends and close relatives and receive their gift today: Eiddi - a tradition that is still maintained among Muslim families. Beforehand, there is the major cleaning of the house, the changing of the curtains, and the purchase of various ingredients to prepare the traditional Eid lunch, especially in the Mauritian context, the Briani. As it is mentioned in the collection of Hadiths by Imam Bukhari: “And on this day one must be joyful, share his meal and his time with the family.”

This is legitimate because after having fasted during the month of Ramadan for the Pleasure of Allah, our Creator, He offers us – to us, Muslims – this gift. It is a gift He gave us with the advent of His beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and the command to fast the month of Ramadan.

‘Laila-tul-Qadr’: An Interview

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).” (2:185)

'Truly, We revealed this on a Night full of blessings...’ (44:4)

We revealed it on the ‘Laila-tul-Qadr’ [the Night of Destiny, the Blessed Night & filled with virtues] (97:2)
